S

eeb town may not be a posh neighbourhood with fine dining restaurants and huge shopping centres, but it is home to one of those natural wonders that most people around the world are willing to pay top dollar for: access to the beach. This coastal neighbourhood, a mere 20 kilometres from the airport, has retained some of its village charm, while playing host to fabulous modern villas and a few apartment complexes, whose residents enjoy a calm beachfront life. The sandy stretch of Seeb town is one of

Seeb city's oldest residential areas and was at one time a fishing hub that rivalled the famous fish souq of Muttrah. Seeb is a street-food lover's paradise with mishkak vendors selling charred meat and squid in front of the souq and roadside by the beach, slathered in chilli tamarind sauce for the perfect late night snack.

The souq has changed over the past few years, but still has a time-honoured vibe with one side home to spice, garment, perfume, watch, fish, and vegetable vendors, and another side filled with wooden carpentries, furnishing shops, garages, and a Centrepoint market.

The beach is definitely a highlight in this neighbourhood, and a priceless benefit for residents. Painting the ambience of the area are the raw, oceanic breezes, the vibrant atmosphere during afternoons as fishermen return from sea, and the young men playing musical instruments by the beach at night.

Places of interest include the famous traditional gold and spices shops in the Seeb Souq, the Royal Stables and Equestrian Centre, Indian School Seeb, and Lulu Hypermarket. For hardcore entertainment lovers and shopaholics, Muscat City Centre, Markaz Al Bahja, and The Walk at Almouj are about 10 to 15 minutes away.
